Baja Mexico Tour
(Baja Peninsula, Mexico)

Starting in Los Angeles, the pack roars south on Highway 1 through the border town of Tijuana to the beach resort of Ensenada for a night at the world-famous cantina, Hussong's.

Riders experience the magnificent boulder formations, rugged hills and dense desert vegetation of the Vizcaino Desert with its smells of sage, pinon pine and datura, to the forest of date palms and cool waters of the oasis of San Ignacio. The blue-green waters of Bahia Conception, with its views of volcanic islands and isolated beach camps; the red-brown peaks of the Sierra de la Giganta; and sunsets at Land's End are more beautiful than any travel poster could ever depict.

The tour includes visits to ancient pueblos, including Loreto, Mulege and Santa Rosalia (known for its metal church designed by Eiffel, the architect of the Eiffel Tower); to the artists' and surfers' community of Todos Santos, with a stay at Hotel California; to the whale migration centers of the Magellana Lagoons in San Carlos or Scammons Lagoon in Guerrero Negro; to Mexico's famous resort cities of La Paz and Cabo San Lucas.

DAY 3 FROM - TO: Ensenada to Catavina
MILES: 230 HOTEL: TBA
OF INTEREST: This morning, picture yourself as a modern cowboy roaming the open range on an ironhorse vibrating with 1340cc’s of power and gusto. Our destination: the desert ... the real desert. The clear air rips past your face bringing unfamiliar smells of the old west: sage, pinion pine, and datura. Like an eagle you soar into the open country, not looking back and not knowing what lies ahead. Our road leaves the coast and we enter the ‘real’ Baja where cirio trees and giant cardon cacti begin appearing alongside the road. The Vizcaino Desert is one of the most fascinating desert regions in the world. We are greeted with expansive views of boulder formations, rugged hills and dense desert vegetation. For the first time, perhaps, you really understand what it meant to the cowboys to ride free in the wild west.

DAY 4 FROM - TO: Catavina to San Ignacio
MILES: 235
OF INTEREST: We continue through this fascinating boulder-strewn country over several 1000 meter summits, past flat-topped volcanic cones and cactus-covered hills into one of Baja's most charming pueblos. San Ignacio is an authentic desert oasis located at the bottom of a wide arroyo in a forest of date palms and cool ponds. The thatched-roofed dwellings and pastel-colored business structures are clustered around an imposing stone mission and a tree-shaded plaza. Walk the zocalo (town square) in the evening with the local people and feel old Mexico seeping into your bones in the soft twilight.

Then we slow the big iron bikes down for a descent of the Devil's Grade, seven miles of switchbacks that take us down to the warm waters of the Sea of Cortez. We continue this fantastic ride through Santa Rosalia and Mulege, past the beautiful Bahia Conception, one of the scenic delights of Baja California with blue-green waters, volcanic islands and isolated beach camps. Then on to our hotel in Loreto where we will have time to explore the oldest Spanish settlement in all of the Californias. We’ll have time to enjoy the old town’s picturesque central plaza, the graceful stone mission Nuestra Senora de Loreto and take a stroll on the sea wall and view the blue waters and rugged islands.

DAY 6 FROM - TO: Loreto to La Paz

For some travelers, La Paz is the finest city in all of Mexico. Take a walk along the waterfront and downtown area to see for yourself. Then enjoy the ambiance of our fine hotel and prepare for an evening in the big city.

Under the shadow of Cerro del Venado, we roll into San Jose del Cabo and then down the coast to the Bahia San Lucas, a favorite hiding place for pirates who lay in wait for Spanish treasure ships in the 16th and 17th century. Today it is the international resort community of Cabo San Lucas and we are here to enjoy it all. Just before arriving in Cabo we get a view of Land’s End, the tip of the Baja peninsula.
