OF INTEREST: We meet at the bar at our hotel at 8:00p.m.
for a dinner party, meet our guides and get oriented for
the adventure to come. We can visit the blues clubs and
night life of the windy city or just get a goodnights sleep.
DAY 2 FROM - TO: Chicago to Springfield,
Illinios
MILES: 201
OF INTEREST: We pick up our Harleys, fill out our
paperwork and then head south through Chicago, the old truck
stop town of McLean, and roar through the coalmining area
of Illinois along the Pontiac Trail. We can visit "the old
road", just pieces of pavement that still exist along the
newer version.
DAY 3 FROM - TO: Springfield to Lebanon,
Missouri
MILES: 240
OF INTEREST: Highway towns are too numerous to stop,
well maybe the famous Dixie Truck Stop or the "Our Lady
of the Highway Statue" or Litchfield, and the Paris Stop
Cafe. We visit Miramec Caverns, as we head for the Mississippi
River and visit the famous "Chain of Rocks Bridge". Heading
south through Missouri into the crossroads city of St. Louis.
DAY 4 FROM - TO: Lebanon to Tulsa, Oklahoma

OF INTEREST: Today we’re deep in the Ozarks of central
Missouri. We go through the famous towns of Lebanon and
Conway and the old beautiful court house in Carthage. And
how about the mining town of WebCity on our way into the
last main town of Missouri, Joplin. And then, the Sunflower
state of Kansas for fourteen miles before heading down to
check out the famous Colman Theater where Will Rogers performed
regularly in his day in the old town of Miami then on into
Tulsa for the evening.
DAY 5 FROM - TO: Tulsa to Clinton, Oklahoma

OF INTEREST: Here is where the pavement of Route
66 follows the contour of the land as if it’s always been
there. We cover 100 miles of the old west’s indian country
between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. We head west through El
Reno, over the mile long bridge, near Bridgeport and into
Clinton, the heart and soul of Route 66 country!
DAY 6 FROM - TO: Clinton to Amarillo, Texas

OF INTEREST: We rise early for our journey into Texas
full of pickly pear and into the "panhandle" continuing
through the oil town of Shammrock. We’ll gas up at one of
the original gas stations of the old Route 66 and then on
to McLean. Get ready for a steak "Texas Style", like a 4
1/2 pounder!
DAY 7 FROM - TO: Amarillo to Santa Fe
MILES: 270
OF INTEREST: Today we head out of Texas and into
"The Land of Enchantment", New Mexico, after passing through
Cadillac Ranch. How about the ghost town of Glen Rio where
you can stand with one foot in New Mexico and the other
in Texas? With 5 states behind us and 3 ahead of us, we
roar through the land of the Commanche and into Tucumcari
for lunch. Then we head up into the high plains and altitude
of Santa Fe in central New Mexico.
DAY 8 FROM - TO: Santa Fe - 2nd day

OF INTEREST: Just rest and enjoy the beautiful city
or head up to the old indian town of Taos along the river
valley and return through the beautiful high country. There
is great shopping in Santa Fe for indian artifacts.
DAY 9 FROM - TO: Santa Fe to Gallup, New
Mexico
MILES: 197
OF INTEREST: This morning we head south, down to
Albuquerque and "old town" for some more sights and sounds
of the old west. Then, we cross the Rio Grande and head
west up 9 mile pass out into the open road full of purple,
blood red and the hues of the Navajo wilderness. Skirting
mesas and bluffs on into Laguna. Grants and the continental
divide lead us into the railroad town and old indian stronghold
of Gallup.
DAY 10 FROM - TO: Gallup to Flagstaff, Arizona
MILES: 185
OF INTEREST: After entering Arizona, we roar our
Harleys through Holbrook, the Petrified Forest, and then
we come to Winslow for rest and lunch. Then we pass the
old "Jackribbit Trading Post" and on into Flagstaff for
the evening.
DAY 11 FROM - TO: Flagstaff to Williams,
Arizona
MILES: 145
OF INTEREST: We get up early and head for the Grand
Canyon past Mount Humphreys. Here is one of the world’s
greatest spectacles. We make several stops along the canyon
for photos and light hiking before lunch. Then we head south
to the last town on the old highway, Williams for shopping,
dinner and an evenings rest.
DAY 12 FROM - TO: Williams to Laughlin, Nevada
MILES: 210
OF INTEREST: We find the old road bending north,
coming down from the highlands, through the indian town
of Peach Springs to Kingman and then up the mountain to
the famous mining town of Oatman for lunch. Then on to the
neon gaming town of Laughlin. Hold onto your pocketbooks
and get ready for some bright lights and rockin’ entertainment.
DAY 13 FROM - TO: Laughlin to Big Bear Lake

OF INTEREST: After a early breakfast and a last dip
in the pool say good-bye to Laughlin and we depart over
the Castle Mountains, cross the Devil's Playground to edge
of the Mojave Desert, and into the cool pines of the San
Gabriel Mountains.
DAY 14 FROM - TO: Big Bear Lake to Los
Angeles

OF INTEREST: This morning we ride one of the most
exciting biking roads in California: the San Gabriel Mountains.
For 35 miles there isn't a straight stretch of highway
as the road twists and winds across the canyons and ridges
of the mountain range. We finish our adventure with a
ride across L.A. to Santa Monica. The official end station
of the Route 66. In the afternoon you'll have some time
to explore the area.
DAY 15 FROM - TO: Los Angeles

OF INTEREST: After a short trip we'll take the
bikes to the rental station where we check in the bikes
and prepare for the trip home.
